And Stronger...Who is this Kid?

Declan had a great day today.  I'm very proud of my little man.

We drove Daddy into work this morning so we could have the car for an adventure.  Dropped him off for work at 10am (and Daddy bought Mommy tea and a muffin - sweet).  Then Declan and I drove an hour to visit with Nancy and her little ones, MacGregor and Molly.  Declan is such a cooperative guy when I make plans for us.  He got up just before we had to leave in the morning, quick bottle, quick breakfast, quickly got dressed and we were off.  He then slept the entire road trip to Nancy's which nicely took care of the morning nap so he was all sweet and happy when we got there.

Just as we walked in the door Nancy grabbed Declan and I used her restroom.  I didn't even think to make sure he was ok that I was leaving him with the three of them so abruptly but Declan didn't care.  He was all smiles and when I walked back into the room he looked excited with his arms waving and the legs kicking.  So content.  MacGregor really enjoys the little man.  Declan was babbling to him and MacGregor got excited "he's talking to me".  When Molly stood close to him Declan grabbed onto her hand.  She pulled away when she noticed but then sweetly gave her hand back to him and Declan held on tightly.  He also spent a good deal of time sitting on the floor playing with toys with both kids.  He really wasn't nervous this visit even though they are both much bigger and more active than he is.  Amazing how much more confident he's becoming.

At lunch we all sat in the kitchen and Declan was in the high chair.  He had his own spoon and bowl that he repeatedly dropped on the floor while I fed him his lunch.  I even gave him a piece of crescent roll that he had no interest in eating yet managed to break into so many little pieces...and drop all over the floor.  After lunch it was time for a short nap before getting in some more playtime with MacGregor.  At this point I thought to see how he'd do on his tummy.  Declan is much stronger and more confident so he didn't roll over to his back right away.  MacGregor got down on the floor with him and the toys which I think helped keep Declan interested in being on his belly.  He was holding his chest up high and smiling.  He was reaching for toys and excited kicking his legs out behind him.  I think Declan was on his tummy for about 15 minutes which is shocking since he always rolls over in less than 3.

So playtime was over just after 4pm because we needed to make the long drive back to pick Daddy up from work.  Again, Declan was a dear and got his late afternoon, pre-dinner nap in and slept the entire time in the car.  We arrived about 15 minutes early so we went inside Daddy's work and looked around at the Baby books.  Declan found one he's been thinking about (or I was thinking about...if I must be honest).  When Daddy came out we showed it to him.  Lucky little man, Daddy used his discount and bought it for him.  Declan is now the proud owner of another Susan Boyton book - 'Barnyard Dance'.

At home before bed I put Declan on his belly so he could show Daddy how strong he is.  He was up on both arms with his chest lifted high.  What a difference.  We had some more standing tonight too.  At one point he was standing with legs strong and straight but he bent over forward and was looking at his legs.  I think he's just as surprised as we are at what he can do.  Then 9pm and the eye rubbing and wiggles started up so it was off to bed and right to sleep. He's the best.
