Declan's first Halloween!!!
What a great day for our little man. Started off pretty normal but when he got changed out of his jammie's he put on clean jammie's for the day...Halloween Jammie's. They are just too cute so they became his outfit for today (until he donned his costume). Early afternoon Declan was in his excersaucer at the front door while Mommy and Auntie T put out the Halloween decorations. The faux graveyard on the front lawn was tremendous. Declan wasn't scared at all, even when we showed him the creepy heads. So far he's Halloween tough.
Late afternoon before Daddy got home from work we popped over to see Hayley and Owen so that they could get a couple pictures together. Owen was a cute little Lion and Declan was a Monkey. The best part was when they first sat down on the floor together, Declan grabbed onto Owen's foot and Owen was reaching for Declan. They were both big smiles and there was some baby babbling. It was baby play and it was adorable.
They hung out for a little bit and then we were on our way home to get ready for Declan's first Trick or Treating. All dressed up in his whole Monkey suit, Daddy carried him and Mommy held the treat bag/pumpkin and Declan's little Monkey buddy and an umbrella to try and keep Declan dry. At one point when I was walking ahead Declan spied his Monkey and he was reaching out far to try and grab him. From that point on Declan held onto his monkey while we visited different houses. I think we went to about 10, maybe 15 in total and Declan was so good. Even when his monkey hat was falling down over his eyes he simply remained calm and cooperative.
After coming home and taking off the costume Delcan sat on Mommy's lap at the front door so we could see the kids that came by. He was babbling away and blowing raspberries. We were sitting in the dark too and he was just so happy. Then finally we sat down on the floor in the TV room and poured out Declan's treats so he could see his haul (even if he can't eat any of it). I love that the first thing he grabs is a KitKat. Now I know why the one thing I craved while pregnant (and carried with me everywhere) was KitKat bars. It was all Declan.

Great Appetite
Declan has been a big eater today.
Breakfast: Cereal, nothing fancy but he did eat a larger serving than he used to.
Late morning snack: Declan ate some more of his apple/strawberry cereal puffs. So sweet, they make his baby breath smell like strawberries. I love it. He ate every one I gave him. His ability to pick up small things with his little fingers is great.
Lunch: Apple/Zucchini/Cinnamon which he just loved. I thought that would be a gross one but he enjoyed it very much.
Afternoon snack: 2 Wobbly Wheels. It is amazing how good he is at feeding himself snacks now. He even looks for the little pieces that he drops.
Dinner: Pear and Vegetables followed by Apple, Green bean and Mango. He had a good size serving and then for dessert I gave him a 1/4 of a shortbread cookie.
He also had 6 bottles today when he normally has 5. I'm wondering if he's hitting that 9 Month growth spurt a bit early.

The Wind
My little man is getting so big. He's also getting braver. This morning we were hanging out on the floor with his toys. He saw a toy that was over by his books and out of his reach. Declan was determined to get it though so he reached really far over, so far that he soon fell all the way forward onto his belly....and his face. His head went right into his books. Little guy had a red mark on his forhead and a scratch and minor swelling just above his top lip. Declan started crying right away but I picked him up. Told him he was ok and he stopped crying very quickly. I also told him how proud I was of him for trying to reach something that was far away.
A little later in the day, just after lunch Declan was sitting on Mommy and Daddy's big bed and he had a ball to play with. The ball was pretty far out in front of him but he stretched as much as he could and grabbed it with the tips of his fingers. I clapped for him and cheered "yay"! So Declan smiled and flapped his arms. Then he tossed the ball forward and reached out far again to get hit, so there was more clapping and cheering (I'm really his biggest fan). This continued a few times as I'm certain he was quite pleased with himself.
Then Mommy, Auntie T and Declan headed out for a couple errands. There was no rain when we left and the wind wasn't very strong. It surprisingly didn't even feel very cold. Then as we were out the weather turned. Winds picked up, it started to pour rain and the air was bitter cold. We had to leave Costco right when this was happening. I pulled the car up to the front doors for Auntie T and Declan as she ran out with the cart. As the wind hit Declan in the face he had a very shocked look on his face but no tears. Good thing he had his hat on good and tight. The weather was a small price to pay for the little guy...he was happy...we got a new toy.
After we got home and all settled the new toy was wiped down and ready for play. The Vtech Sit to Stand Walker. Boy does he love it. All the dials, sounds, things that pull off, the cow, the barn door, there was a lot of leg kicking and arm waving going on. Little guy was babbling on and on about it. I even held him up so he could stand and he put his hands on the handle for the walker right away. We're pretty far from him trying to walk though....stand up on his own....now there's something perhaps he could work on first. I wonder if he'll dream about it tonight.

Church
Today was Chelsey Shortt's Christening. This also means that today was Declan's first time in church. He seemed to like the place when we got there because of everything to look at. He especially liked the giant ceiling fans. He lit up when he saw Chelsey in her big beautiful white dress, he was crazy smiley when he saw MacGregor and he also is quite fond of Nancy's husband Eliot. MacGregor asked his mom "why does he keep smiling at me?" And Nancy told him "it's because he likes you". So sweet.
Declan was so excited and looking around at everyone. He grabbed on to the pew in front of him and kept pulling himself forward while I tried to pull him back-little guy is crazy strong. All was great until...my shy little guy decided church was the perfect time to find his voice and with that he started babbling in very loudly (great acoustics) and would not stop...at all...Daddy had to leave and wait in the lobby so we couldn't hear him...and did he stop there?...no. He just kept on going. Who knew he had some strong opinions about the place.
When the service was done we packed up and headed to the reception for some food and drinks. There was a high chair all set up for the little guy, pulled up to the table. He settled in for a very late lunch (he's the best, his lunch was almost 2 hours late and he's still sweet). After eating all his lunch he shared some of ours. Declan had some cut up pasta with tomato sauce and a small piece of bread. After the meal there was a candy bar (which Daddy was excited for). Declan got to share a coke flavored sucker with his Daddy. Very cute as they alternated licks. It was a long day for Declan and a nap was overdue but he would not sleep with all the activity around him. His eyes were glued to the kids all running around. Poor Declan's eyelids were so heavy but he just wouldn't let them close. Finally just after 4pm we packed up for home. Fastened Declan into his car seat and just as Daddy backed out of the parking space Declan was fast asleep. He was barely in the car two minutes and lights out. He got a good nap in on the drive home and we were very proud once again of our little prince.

Birthday Cake
Grandpa Gale's Birthday is this coming Monday, October 29th but we celebrated it today. Declan hung out with Uncle Scott while I was out grabbing groceries. Then he cuddled with Grandma Gale while Auntie T and Grandpa started watching the Hamilton Ti-Cat game. When I got home from Groceries Declan had a yummy fruit and vegetable lunch.
During the halftime we had Birthday cake and presents. Now Grandpa has a special type of cake for his Birthdays. It is a homemade cake from scratch, and old family recipe with raspberry jam filling and fudge icing. Very sweet. So for kicks little Declan was cut a tiny peice so he could try. Soon as the piece was in front of him he had both hands playing in it. After some short examination he finally put some sticky, fudge fingers in his mouth.
The verdict?
He then grabbed the cake with both hands and tried to pick it up. Seems he liked it. He managed to eat a little bit of the cake and a fair bit of icing. Declan sure is getting more interested in the idea of solid food.
After the game we all went out to The Works in Oakville for dinner. Declan sat in the restaurant high chair. He looked so little but he also looked like such a little boy sitting up proud in his button down shirt. He is such a good little guy. So fuss, no cries just smiles all around. After we ordered the little guy had his dinner: broccoli and rice followed up with a little berry mixture. Then our food arrived and of course Declan was eyeing it. I took a piece of beef from my burger and let him just taste it. I held onto it while he sucked at it and he loved it. He was trying to take it from me. He got a small piece broken off so he rolled it around in his mouth a little. He also tried a french fry with some gravy on it. Declan is really eager to sample and it is so much fun. I'm looking forward to making little plates for him when we have our dinner as he gets better at feeding himself...of course that also means that Mommy and Daddy better eat more vegetables and less burgers and fries (sigh).

Shortbread
Declan and I visited Oakville Place mall this afternoon. Had a couple errands to do and it was a nice place to stroll around on a rainy day. So happy for any adventure the little man was all smiles and leg kicks soon as we got there. We sent a note to Daddy so he'd come meet us there after work. Declan and I looked through a couple stores, he even helped pick out a nice little Christening gift for his friend Chelsey's this Sunday. A sweet little beaded bracellet with a silver cross. I think he's excited to give it to her.
We took a little snack break at the mall. I had a strawberry infused green tea and grabbed a shortbread cookie for Declan and I to share. I opened the wrapped cookie and took the first bite to make certain it was something that would be ok for him to try. I was expecting some gagging due to the crumbly dry texture but thought it would be worth trying anyway. Gave him a little piece in his mouth.
He tightened his little lips together and you could see on his face that he was thinking about the new discovery. Texture doesn't seem to bother him when it's a shortbread cookie. He kept his lips tight together and let the cookie melt in his mouth so he could eat it.
My little Monkey loved his shortbread. He was staring at the cookie on the table anticipating the next piece. Wide open mouth, eager for each bit. I saved some of the cookie so Daddy could taste it later and then Declan could have a bit more for desert in the evening. Our little man sure was happy to see the cookie again after dinner and again he gobbled it up.

Oh The Horror...
It was a beautiful fall day so there was no way that Declan and I would be spending the entire day inside. After Declan had his breakfast and morning nap we packed up to head out for an hours walk to the grocery store and back. About halfway there and we got a text from Hayley and Owen (Declan's buddy) that they would be heading out on a walk right after Owen finished his after lunch nap. Fabulous. We'll finish our walk and head over to join them on theirs. Lots of fresh air. So Declan and I made it to the grocery store. We stopped at a picnic table and Declan had his lunch and a bottle. We then went inside and looked around, picked up some 9 month old snacks (because Declan will soon be 9 months) and then headed back. Along the walk back I was singing "5 Little Monkeys" to declan and when I got to "2 little monkeys" I felt a spider web. Great. I've walked through a spider web between two of the trees that all line the walkway. I stopped, wiped off any webs, cringed at the thought that a spider could be on me and then started up again...."2 little monkeys jumping on the bed". Then again, I felt web on me and could see some strands blowing in the breeze from the handle of the stoller. Loosing my mind a little. There better not be a spider on me! So we continued and the last "little monkey" fell off the bed and WHAT....now I saw a think white web string on the side of the stroller. I could feel web on me. Then a spider....then another and then four little spiders on me. Ahhhhhhhhhh, seriously loosing my mind. There I was. Looking like a crazy person rubbing my arms, my legs...I got out the baby wipes and started wiping myself down completely. Then I walk around the front to look at little Declan. The canopy on his stroller was up so I looked under and there were a bunch of spider web strings all inside. Oh my god...they are everywhere. Then I started wiping Declan down...the canopy, the tray, the sides, the wheels....oh my god! What if they got in my hair!?!?!? I still had to walk between trees for another half block before the path would open up. I was ready to go fetal position and scream but I had to get Declan out of there. I looked around and could see lots of webing flowing from some of the trees....little baby spiders everywhere. Seriously my worst nightmare. So we made it to the open and we approached the corner where Louis St Laurent meets Trudeau. I turned the corner and right away noticed the huge web string between the light post and another tree. OH MY GOD. I walked with that stroller right down the middle of the street and then turned down Lancaster and found a open spot to stop. I sent Hayley a text and told her we couldn't be outside any more, that I was loosing my mind and I'd explain when I stop by her house. I then quickly gave Declan a diaper change. That's when I saw a spider in his stroller just hanging out....squished with a baby wipe. It's going to rain a lot over the next few days if I have anything to do about it. We then turned down Donnelly and stood on Hayley's driveway. I texted her and said we were out front and to come out when she was free and that I might look crazy. I was still using the wipes to ensure all webs were off me.....off Declan....off the stoller. When Hayley came out and saw me I told her what had happened and commented on the numerous spiders I could see on her porch and garage. What is going on??? Just then about 30 large black birds of prey flew overhead. Declan started laughing....I shouted "It's the end of the world". At this point Hayley brought us inside. We were saved.
Declan played with some toys until Owen woke from his nap. Then the boys smiled when they laid eyes on each other and both sat on the floor and played some more. There were even some babbles of communication between them. After a little bit Declan tried out Owen's bouncer. He sure loved it. He was moving his little feet like he was running franticaly and he kept sqealing with delight. So cute. Declan was putting so much into bouncing the poor little guy exhausted himself. I picked him up and gave him some bottle and within a few minutes he passed out cold. So tired. So much play. So cute.
Just after 4pm we packed it up for the walk home and Hayley and Owen came along in case I needed Spider protection. Oddly enough we didn't come across any on the way home. So thankful. Owen and Hayley were on there way and we went inside to find Daddy and get ready to pick up the new car. YAY...If things go well little man, this will be your first car when you get your liscense. You can say you were a part of the decision making. Such a good and patient little man we were out and back with the new wheels in 2 1/2 hours time making for a late dinner, some short play, a bottle and right to sleep. Now to sleep for me....if I can shake the heebie jeebies.

Laundry Day Lazy
Daddy didn't have to work today and so the whole family was home. As usual Wednesday is laundry day so with all of us here we managed to get a lot done BUT that did mean that we were doing laundry FOREVER. Declan was the only one to get out of his jammies today. Sorry little man. I hope you didn't feel too cooped up and I promise that tomorrow we'll get out for a short walk at the very least.
Declan did get a small change of scenery though. Mommy brought Declan upstairs to visit with his Aunt T, Uncle Scott, Madison and Josh for about 15 minutes. In that short visit they fed him a noodle, made his wear a Nike sweatband and then a clown wig. It was a very full 15 minutes. The little guy is always so happy to see them. My little social butterfly. I sure hope that once he starts going to Daycare a couple days a week that he's just as happy to interact with the caregiver and the little kids there as he is with our families and our friends.
Cutest little muffin.

My Little Foodie
Declan had a full day of food adventure. I don't know what Declan thought of the food experimentation but for Mommy it was great fun.
Declan started his day off right with his usual bottle and cereal. Then Mommy had some waffles with syprup so, hey...why not let the little man try it (he's staring at my every movement like he wants to have it). I handed him a little piece with a touch of maple syrup on it. Right to his mouth (which is weird because usually he just holds onto things he should eat and eats things he shouldn't). So right to his mouth, syrup side. He seemed to really like it. Just sucking away at it. Then just like that, he was done with it. Didn't really eat any of the waffle. Then I, got it. Declan just sucked off the syrup and left the waffle behind little monkey.
For lunch today I thought why not try some more real foods. I scrambled an egg yolk, cut up some banana pieces and little chucks of cheese. Prepared a little plate even and gave it to Declan to try. He did a great job of mushing up and then wearing the banana - did not eat, then he picked at some of the cheese pieces - did not eat and for the grand finale he gagged at the egg when I spooned some into his mouth - did not eat. So...that went well. I gave him some baby food and mushed up the banana for him so his tummy was full, I ate the cheese and the egg was tossed. Guess we'll wait a bit longer before we try that again.
After lunch we got cleaned up and ready to head to Erin Mills Town Center with Declan's buddy Owen and his Mommy Hayley. He got in a short nap on the road there and then he was all happy and ready for mall strolling when we got there. It is sweet to see Declan's little face light up when he sees his buddy. Either he is starting to remember him or he just likes other babies. They rolled for a while and then we sat down for a drink and snack at one of the coffee places. Mommy had a croissant which meant that Declan was able to try croissant too. I gave him a good size piece of the soft middle. Declan sucked on it until it was a disgusting wet lump of a thing that made me want to throw up a little. He certainly enjoyed the flavour but not actually digesting it. Sure looked cute attacking it though.
When we were leaving the mall it was raining lightly and that meant that little Declan was getting some gently in his face. This is funny. I don't know how exactly but the kid was having a laughing fit. He was laughing and squealing. So sweet, can't wait until he sees snow!
And finally my little man had a simple dinner of peas and carrots but for dessert he tried strained strawberries (jarred baby food). He ate every last bit. Declan loves his jarred peas and carrots (that's right...so long as Mommy doesn't make them he loves them) and the strawberries seemed to be a hit. We'll try them again tomorrow just to find out for sure and to make certain there are no allergies.

Working Through the ...."gag"
Too funny. Declan tried a purée mixture of vegetables, chicken and rice. We'll the texture is not his favorite and I can't help but laugh my butt of watching poor Declan gag his way through eat mouthful. Sorry Muffin but its good for you and if you don't eat it now I'm sure you'll avoid it later so open wide. He's tough. Made it through the whole serving. Made it through with a lot of drool, watery eyes and help me looks. Mmmmmmm yummy blueberries as a reward. Man...this kid is really cooperative.

Fills My Heart
So in case it wasn't already clear I feel I need to say it, my favourite thing in the whole world is when my little man holds onto me. I was waiting for the moment he'd start ever since I first laid eyes on him and I'm so happy that in this past week it's now a regular thing.
Our little man is so fun to watch. I can sit for hours as he reaches for toys, turns them around and then places them back down. He's still a determined little man. He is able to sit up from a reclined position and it's entertaining watching him as he works so hard to get up. He tries, and falls back, then tries again...and this can happen a couple times before he finally makes it but he's so happy when he does and he flashes a big smile. I cheer for him, I mean...he's just a baby right. That's still an accomplishment. Actually I know adults who have a hard time with this.
My monkey still thinks I'm pretty funny. This evening we had a thing between the two of us. We'd just look at each other and both start laughing so hard. I think Daddy thinks we're crazy. Declan's laugh is so strong. The sound, it fills my heart. We're so lucky that this is the nut we get to spend our time with. I hope he's always got reasons to laugh.

Cookies....
They're just not as messy anymore. Since Declan has his cute little teeth cookie eating is less mushy and more pieces as he bites into them. Now I'm comfortable letting him eat them anywhere since its much easier to clean up. Things are happening so quickly now. He's so solid and strong. Now he's starting to climb all over me. He grabs a hold of me with tight fists, he's standing up when I hold him even more now than he bounces. Little Declan has so much personality and he's laughing when we make funny faces and in response to things we say.
He still looks like my little baby when he's just in his diaper but more and more I can't believe how much of a little boy he's become.

A Cow Says Moo
That's all it takes to make my monkey smile. I simply say "A Cow Says Moo" and he stops whatever he's doing, looks my way and smiles. My favourite books to read to Declan are his Sandra Boyton board books and the best one: Moo, Ba, La La La. It's been read to him so many times that I have it memorized. Now I can recite it anywhere, on our walk today, yesterday in the car or just sitting on the couch at home.
Declan is so much fun. Hanging with him is much more enjoyable now that he's so responsive and interactive. It's such a shame that as he's becoming a little person maternity leave will come to an end and I'll spend less time with him. I miss him already.

And Stronger...Who is this Kid?
Declan had a great day today. I'm very proud of my little man.
We drove Daddy into work this morning so we could have the car for an adventure. Dropped him off for work at 10am (and Daddy bought Mommy tea and a muffin - sweet). Then Declan and I drove an hour to visit with Nancy and her little ones, MacGregor and Molly. Declan is such a cooperative guy when I make plans for us. He got up just before we had to leave in the morning, quick bottle, quick breakfast, quickly got dressed and we were off. He then slept the entire road trip to Nancy's which nicely took care of the morning nap so he was all sweet and happy when we got there.
Just as we walked in the door Nancy grabbed Declan and I used her restroom. I didn't even think to make sure he was ok that I was leaving him with the three of them so abruptly but Declan didn't care. He was all smiles and when I walked back into the room he looked excited with his arms waving and the legs kicking. So content. MacGregor really enjoys the little man. Declan was babbling to him and MacGregor got excited "he's talking to me". When Molly stood close to him Declan grabbed onto her hand. She pulled away when she noticed but then sweetly gave her hand back to him and Declan held on tightly. He also spent a good deal of time sitting on the floor playing with toys with both kids. He really wasn't nervous this visit even though they are both much bigger and more active than he is. Amazing how much more confident he's becoming.
At lunch we all sat in the kitchen and Declan was in the high chair. He had his own spoon and bowl that he repeatedly dropped on the floor while I fed him his lunch. I even gave him a piece of crescent roll that he had no interest in eating yet managed to break into so many little pieces...and drop all over the floor. After lunch it was time for a short nap before getting in some more playtime with MacGregor. At this point I thought to see how he'd do on his tummy. Declan is much stronger and more confident so he didn't roll over to his back right away. MacGregor got down on the floor with him and the toys which I think helped keep Declan interested in being on his belly. He was holding his chest up high and smiling. He was reaching for toys and excited kicking his legs out behind him. I think Declan was on his tummy for about 15 minutes which is shocking since he always rolls over in less than 3.
So playtime was over just after 4pm because we needed to make the long drive back to pick Daddy up from work. Again, Declan was a dear and got his late afternoon, pre-dinner nap in and slept the entire time in the car. We arrived about 15 minutes early so we went inside Daddy's work and looked around at the Baby books. Declan found one he's been thinking about (or I was thinking about...if I must be honest). When Daddy came out we showed it to him. Lucky little man, Daddy used his discount and bought it for him. Declan is now the proud owner of another Susan Boyton book - 'Barnyard Dance'.
At home before bed I put Declan on his belly so he could show Daddy how strong he is. He was up on both arms with his chest lifted high. What a difference. We had some more standing tonight too. At one point he was standing with legs strong and straight but he bent over forward and was looking at his legs. I think he's just as surprised as we are at what he can do. Then 9pm and the eye rubbing and wiggles started up so it was off to bed and right to sleep. He's the best.

Hanging On
Wow, this was a big day for Declan. We had to cancel our playdate with Hayley and Owen because Mommy has a sore throat and cold and little Declan has been coughing. Best to have a day indoors.
Not feeling 100%, Declan was quite a complainer this afternoon. There was a lot of fussing and lots of tears. At one point when I was thinking (not seriously) that I might like to throw Declan. He looked at me with tears and said "Mommy". I know he didn't mean it but it was fabulous timing and it made me able to handle more of the fuss and tears.
He spent a bit of time in his excersaucer and he was bouncing a lot. You could tell he is getting stronger. I gave him some Mum Mum rice cookies for a treat while he was in there and he ate them up nice and fast. He was actually biting them with his new little teeth. Such a grumpy gus, even with the fun bouncing and the yummy cookies he was still giving me a "look'.
In the evening after Daddy's work day was done our little Declan decided he likes to stand. Still wants to bounce lots but tonight he was actually choosing to stand and look down at me. Then he'd smile and laugh. This went on for about a half hour. Strong little monkey.
And the best development today...Declan is holding on to me. When he's in my arms and I lean forward he grabs on tight. He's been rapping his arm around mine and gripping me. The best was when, sitting on my lap, he leaned in, rested him head on my chest and wrapped his right arm around mine and then grabbed onto my shirt with his left hand and pulled it tight. My sweetie snuggled me. Heaven.

Rollin' With the Ladies
Daddy was working 10am to 6pm today so Declan and Mommy drove Daddy into work so we had the car for some activities. After saying goodbye to Daddy, Declan and Iheaded over to Grandma Gale's house to visit for an hour. Little man sat on the floor and cheerfully ate his shoe. Yup, his shoe. He was just thrilled. Good thing he isn't walking or crawling yet so that was a clean shoe.
After our little visit we drove to Mapleview Mal to meet up with Daniella and Chelsey. So cute, Declan was happy to see Chelsey right away. We say in to food court so the little ones could eat their lunches before strolling around the mall. When we did, Chelsey's stroller faces back and Declan's faces forward so they sweetly stared at each other and smiled while we walked around. At one point when I was holding Declan I held him beside Chelsey in her stroller and Declan reached over and held her hand. It's adorable how they do this. At one point in a store I handed Declan over to Daniella to hold for a moment and she couldn't get over how solid he is and how much he weights. She's sure that Chelsey (who is 8 weeks older) is lighter.
After our socializing at the mall we headed home for two hours of stretching out before we had to head out to pick Daddy up from work. Declan got in some bouncing and a whole lot of kicking. Baby aerobics.
We then left at 5:30pm to get Daddy. Declan was so tired he slept the entire way there and the entire way back home. When he finally opened his eyes Declan sure was happy to see his Dad.
We did have a cranky evening though. Declan still seems to be struggling with some tooth pain but at least he went down for bed easily. I hope a good nights sleep helps to ease the discomfort.

Tooth Ache
Our poor little monkey. He's having a bit of a rough time with this second tooth. In the morning he made it almost the entire time with very little whines or fussing. Then afternoon hit and boy did it ever. The poor little man was so uncomfortable. There were huge big tears and he worked himself up into another low fever. We tried to distract him with favourite toys, even Phineus and Ferb on TV. Actually that worked for a bit. We gave him a nice cold teething ring which also helped a bit. Mostly though it was Mommy and Daddy taking turns trying to comfort the little man. He did take a couple solid naps that helped but it was a tough day for Declan.
In the evening we visited with Uncle Scott, Auntie T, Josh and Madison for a bit because Declan does well with a change of environment and he loves his family so we got some smiles finally. He was good for just over an hour before he started getting fussy again. Then it was pjs and bottle time. Little sweetheart fell asleep before he could even finish half his bottle. I think all the crying must have just tuckered him out. Here's hoping he gets a good night's sleep so he can handle any discomfort tomorrow.
Poor little guy (although from the pictures you'd think he had a great day).

Declan's First Thanksgiving.....just a week late.
We had breakfast with Jarred and Amanda before leaving Bowmanville. Declan finally had a good nights sleep after fussing and not wanting to go down. I think his new tooth was bothering his gums so this morning we used some Baby Orajel to help and he was in much better spirits afterward. He hung out with us at the breakfast table and even tried a piece of hashbrown. Then while Daddy loaded all his things into the car Declan took a morning nap on my lap - heaven....warm, cuddly heaven.
We then got on our way and little man slept nearly the entire drive home. He seemed happy to be back in his environment and with all his toys again. Mommy and Daddy took turns all afternoon playing with him before he went down for a nice long late afternoon nap before dinner. We then joined Auntie T, Uncle Scott, Madison and Josh for a belated Thanksgiving dinner. We put together a little baby sample plate for Declan: some mashed potatoes, some sweet potatoe, a little turkey and some stuffing. We had his usual puree dinner ready on the side in his little bowl because he still doesn't like to eat food in its normal form. As soon as I placed his plate on his high chair tray Declan was in with both hands. Into the mashed potatoes that it. Now give the kid a toy, your cell phone or his shoe and it goes right into his mouth. Give him food...and he just plays with it. My only objective was to introduce him to food on a plate and let him touch the same things we're eating. I didn't expect him to actually eat any of it. I was very please that he did eat a piece of stuffing. The rest however was simply squished, smushed and smeared. Declan had a great time.
My little muffin was very tired and after hanging out with his Aunt, Uncle and cousins after dinner he fell asleep on the floor just after 8pm. I had to carry him off to bed at 8:30 and he's been sound asleep ever since. I think that's not a bad first Thanksgiving and I have to say I think it's the best one I've ever had.

Number 2
Mommy, Daddy and Declan went on a little road trip to Bowmanville today to visit Jarred and Amanda. After getting settled and giving Declan his lunch we all went to downtown Bowmanville for the Apple Festival. So much for Declan to see. He was staring all around and with a serious face. I think he's nervous in these situations because there is just so many unfamiliar things to see. We stopped at a coffee shop and Jarred, Amanda and Daddy went inside to grab some drinks while Mommy and Declan waited it front. I was singing songs to Declan to make his smile when I noticed...tooth number 2!!! Looks as though it has just come in probably overnight. I must say that he was in a good mood considering it must have been aching.
We returns to their home as we were staying for dinner and then overnight. Declan was so tired after his dinner and rubbing his eyes but wouldn't go down for his nap. In fact he had a low whine all evening and wouldn't go down at 9pm for bed. It was 9:30pm before he finally sucummed to his exhaustion and closed his eyes. I hope he feels better for the car ride home tomorrow. I still think he's a pretty tough cookie.

Daddy ~ Declan Evening
Since Daddy didn't have to work today the three of us had all morning and afternoon to spend together. Daddy picked up Tim Horton's for us for breakfast and he included an old fashioned Timbit for Declan to try. Declan, I wanted him to get you the sweet, glazed Timbit but Daddy said it has too much sugar. Sorry. I'll get you a sweet one next time. Anyway - Declan got to try his first Timbit. Daddy cut it up into four pieces and then I held it out for him to help himself to. He grabbed for it immediately and started squishing it in his fingers. He did at one point put a piece in his mouth but it did not appeal to him. It just sort of hung there for a bit and then he let it drop out and then squished it in his hands. Squishing. That's all he thinks a Timbit is good for.
The rest of the day was pretty normal, some playtime, some songs, some dancing, some books...which he was tearing things out of, some bottles and a bath.
In the evening Mommy was heading out with Grandpa Gale, Auntie T and Madison to go to a football game so it was Daddy and Declan time. Daddy buddled up his little buddy and they went for a nice walk in the cool fall air. Declan's cheeks were all rosey when they got back and his little nose was a bit chilly. The rest of him was toasty warm having been all tucked up in his fleece blanket.
Daddy and Declan checked out some of the football game on TV and the kid still loves watching sports. All the action, colours, sounds...it's just perfect for wee boys.
Then off to bed at 9pm without any fuss. From wide away when Daddy put him down to sound asleep and snoring by 9:05pm. Daddy was so happy about how his night went with his bud and couldn't wait to tell Mommy about it when she got in after the game.

Andrew's Scenic Acres
Just after 2pm today Mommy and Declan headed out to meet Hayley and Owen for a visit to Andrew's Scenic Acres. When we arrived at Andrew's we got our boys out of our cars to put into their strollers. Soon as they laid eyes on each other they were smiley. So cute, they were happy to see each other. We tucked them into their strollers and made sure they were buddled up good. It was only about 10 degrees outside and the wind was terribly strong. After a quick stop inside to check out the store we started on our walk through the fields on way to the pumpkin patch. It was crazy how windy it was. It took us a while to find a place where we could park the strollers close by, lay down a couple blankets, prop the kids up with some pumpkins and get some buddy pictures. Adorable little men. They looked like they were sharing secrets, Declan had his arm around Owen and they were comfortable together while we did our best to get a few good ones before buddling them back up and heading back. It wasn't a good day for playing in the grass so we'll have to let them roll around and play with some toys together next week but for today the pumpkin patch photo shoot will have to do.
Now Mommy promised to try and get a treat for Daddy so we hit the store again before leaving and picked up a raspberry pie. Promised the little guy he'd get a taste of it when we cute into this evening. So.....what did the little prince think of the raspberry treat? He didn't fare well with the crust but he loved the raspberry filling. Not only would he open his mouth when presented with the chance for another taste he even stuck his tongue out, opened nice and wide. After five tastes Declan was done and didn't want any more. He has a healthy limit. Fun day with the boy and he was off to bed at 9pm.

First Mommy Only Bathtime
My big accomplishment today was bathing Declan by myself. So long as our little guy has been in our lives bathtime has been a tag-team event. Declan's bathtub sits up on the counter in the bathroom and we have to keep play and splash at bay because we don't want water all over the walls. Today while Daddy was at work I decided to give Declan his bath by myself but placed the baby tub on the floor of the shower. This allowed Declan to splash and play because the water would just get all over the shower stall....and....given this opportunity there was zero splashing and he simply played with his water toys gently and didn't splash at all. But he still loved his bath. He was a very good boy, no tears, just smiles and giggles. We made sure to send a picture to Daddy at work so he'd know what we were up to.
This evening Declan had a baby skype date with Grandma and Grandpa May. He was in great spirits and was paying attention to the monitor. He was laughing, flapping his arms and kicking his legs and then finished up with a little bottle. Good news...he was out cold and ready for bed by 8:40pm. Sweet dreams little man.

Baby Stealer
Declan is such a sweetie in the mornings. He's still so happy to see us in the mornings and he plays very calmly and independantly. This morning after his bottle he sat on the floor and played with his giant monkey for a while. I just had to snap a picture of this sweet moment.
Close to noon, even though it was cool out, Declan and I ventured out for a walk for some fresh air. Walked about 40 minutes, then stopped and Declan had Banada Vanilla Yogurt for lunch - Yummy - he loved it. First time trying Yogurt - very successful. Then we turned around and headed back for home. When we arrived we went in through the garage as usual and just as I opened the garage door the door to the house flew open, Auntie T rushed out saying it's too cold outside for the baby and she snatched him up and ran inside. BABY THIEF! Too funny. Now I just know he gets some of his nuttiness from her. After I put the stroller away I checked in on Declan who was playing happily on the couch with his Aunt and Cousin Madison. This kid is loved.
Forgot to mention yesterday that Declan was sitting and clicking his nail by picking at his tooth. Could hear the oddest sound and then realized what the little man was doing. Other odd sounds from his mouth - a mushy, squishy sound that we think is Declan pressing his tongue on his tooth.
Another thing I forgot to mention from yesterday was that Declan likes to play with the package of baby wipes because of the crinkly sound it makes. I'll usually let him play with it a bit because it's harmless. He was on the floor and I had gone into the other room to tell Tyler about something else Declan had done which gave Declan some alone time with the wipes and wouldn't you know it, he managed to open the package and help himself to a wipe to play with. Rubbing it between his hands and tasting it. Too bad he couldn't actually clean his hands or face while he was at it.
This evening Declan was laying on the floor about 1/2 hour before bed and I was laying down beside him giving him tickles. Then Daddy came and laid down by Declan's other side. Daddy was tired and kept closing his eyes which gave Declan great opportunity to grab at Daddy's hair, his nose, dig in his eye, grap his hair again and then finally kick him in the chin. Daddy was a good sport and me....I was a great observer. You go Declan!
