1st Canada Day

Our little Declan had his first Canada Day.  It wasn't a crazy Canada Day...he's not even 5 months yet but it was still a special day for our little man.  Declan had his first 'food' today.  Along with his 11:30am bottle Declan tried cereal for the first time.  Rice cereal, pretty simple.  No expectations since everything I'd read said that the first feed doesn't usually go real well.  Babies will instinctually push their first food out with their tongue and if they eat even half a spoonful of food to consider it a success.  We were ready with the video camera and Declan wore his first bib.

Well, I couldn't be prouder of our guy.  First spoonful he did make a 'yuck' face and push some back out with his tongue but he was pretty interested in it.  It only took one or two more spoons for Declan to welcome the next with an open mouth.  He was happy to have it and I was even able to use his top gums to guide the cereal off the spoon into his mouth and he ate the entire first meal.  No problems at all.  Guess the kid was more than ready for food.  He then drank half a bottle of formula afterwards to fill up his little belly.

Declan is much better with his apple juice now and today he drank the entire 4oz of diluted juice without any 'yuck' face.

After his lunch we had some floor playtime while Daddy had his shower and got ready for going swimming.  Declan is hilarious.  He laid on his belly and giggled for 20 minutes.  Then he rolled over onto his back and laughed some more.  One time I reached over to tickle his belly and he squealed like a squeak toy.

We did get outside for a couple hours and Declan had a chance to swim again for about 20 minutes.  He did cry for about 5 seconds after Mommy dunked him the one time today but the little man was tired and more interested in cuddling with Mom for a nap than swimming for too long.  So we got him out of the water, dried off, changed and snuggled in for a snack and a nap.

The busy day has paid off nicely as Declan was in bed and soundly asleep by 9pm.  Can't wait to see him again in the morning.
