Swim Class

Declan was excited as we were on our way to his first swim class. Then when we entered the building there were about three crying kids and that led to our Declan having a melt down. Just poor timing. He'd just walked in to a new place and kids crying everywhere! After a couple minutes he'd calmed down and had a good look around. Just like that he says "can I put my swimsuit on?"
We got him dressed but we were really early being his first class. Entered the pool area and then our excited boy had to wait 25 minutes for class to start. He didn't seem to mind. He watched enthusiastically as other kids jumped in the pool and worked with their teachers.

We were pretty impressed with his patience. Finally at 4:30pm his teacher Christine came over and got him and lead him to the poolside with his two classmates. When they first got in the water they were told to sit down in the water but Declan stood. He was more comfortable standing to start off so that's what he did.

I can really appreciate the benefit of having someone else teach your child. The teacher kindly yet firmly reached for him when it was his turn and pulled him into the water with her. I could see the fear across his face and as his Mom I would want to stop and hold him close. This was great for him. He listened really well. He tried everything she asked even though he was scared. He floated on his back, he put his mouth in the water to blow bubbles, he stretched out to float a little on his belly. So proud.

Declan loved it. He said Christine was nice, he told me how she counted 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 while he went in the water, he wants to go to Auntie T, Uncle Scott's house to swim more (umm it's winter...we're waiting until summer) and he's excited to go back next week.
