Baby Toy

Declan and I talked about his old Walker the other day. I asked him if it would be ok if we gave it to a baby who could use it. He said ok but he also wanted to play with it some more.

I got home late from work today and missed Gramma showing up to pick up the toy. Daddy got it for her and Declan didn't know it was gone. Once I got home I asked Declan if he remembered our conversation about the Walker and he said yes. I told him it was gone but that Gramma left him $10 in exchange. His eyes lit up. I asked if he'd like to put his $10 in his firetruck bank and he rushed upstairs to grab his bank. Before we put the $10 in the firetruck I made sure he saw that the Walker was gone and he didn't seem to mind at all. He put the money in his bank, smiled at me and asked for more money.

I said no.

Little Boys

Great day for Declan. He had a little friend over. Mommy's friend Kerri and her 3 year old Clayton. They didn't miss a beat. Soon as Clayton was inside they were all in the toys and running around the house. It was great seeing Declan just act like a little boy and have the best time. After destroying the main floor of the house I asked if they'd like to play in the back yard or go to a park.
"Park!"
They agreed so we were off. Declan and Clayton were great. They listened very well and held our hands on the wall there anytime we asked. They got in lots of swing time, slide time, climbing time and then we had to head back home. The boys had some juice together and some snacks before it was time for Kerri and Clayton to head home.
After they left Declan started to cry. When asked what was the matter he said he was sad because his friend was gone. I love it. Declan had a great time.
Even latter after Declan's nap when we went out back Declan was asking where his friend was. Looks like he did alright today.

Soccer Class

Tonight was Declan's first soccer class. He was really excited to get there. When we arrived he couldn't wait to start. He got his little uniform so we changed him right away. Coach V came over and introduced himself to Declan. Declan called him "Sir".
NUTS
I've never once heard him say "Sir" before.

It was amazing watching him participating in the group and listening to the coach while we just sat on the sidelines.

Or at least it was while he listened. It's a long class and it didn't take long before kids start to do their own thing. By comparison he was prett good and especially first class but 3/4 of the way through he was over soccer and wanted to play with the toys he saw stored on the stage.

He did get an amazing workout. He was exhausted. Went to sleep within minutes of going to bed and slept soundly.

The positive is that Declan did say he had fun in class while we were walking back home.

And The Store

This morning as wel start to drive to Kellys house Declan says something about chocolate ice cream.

"Chocolate ice cream."

"What's that Declan."

"And chocolate ice cream."

"You had chocolate ice cream."

"No Daddy."

"Where's the chocolate ice cream come from?"

"The freezer."

"There's chocolate ice cream in the freezer."

"Nope. It's gone now."

"Where did it come from?"

"The store."

"Which store?"

"The store with Daddy. There it is!"

He points out Macs convenience stores we drive by.

"Oh, yesterday you and Daddy went to the park then the store for chocolate ice cream?"

"No not the PARK, the HILL!"

"Oh. You and Daddy went to the hill then stopped at the store for chocolate ice cream?"

"Yup."

Like. Pulling. Teeth.

Hilltop

I missed all the fun today as I worked the entire day. Good thing there were lots of hugs and kisses before I had to head out.

Got a nice picture of Declan on the top of the "big hill". The same one we went tobogganing on this winter. Looks like the boys had a fun time.

Texting?

In the morning Declan is watching his Lego videos on my phone while laying in bed beside Daddy. He turns to look at Daddy and says.
"I got a text from Chelsey. She says to bring Molly and MacGregor to the cottage."

What could possibly be going on in the little toddler mind?

Sleepover

I brought Declan to daycare this morning and then didn't get home until after he'd gone to bed. I'd hoped he'd be awake still so I could sneak in and say goodnight but he was fast asleep.

The good news is he woke up at 10:30pm and wanted to come to bed with me. Yay!!!

Declan weekend night sleepover! So happy. Hopefully Daddy won't mind when he comes upstairs and finds Declan in here with me.

Jealous

Learned today that my little man isn't happy if I'm home with him but too busy to give him my undivided attention. Had to do some cleaning this morning and he was stuck to me. I was able to let him help with cleaning the mirrors and some dusting but I was also a little pressed for time so He wasn't able to do it all with me. He kept trying to get my attention, asking me to play. I told him to be patient and we'd get to play soon.

Which we did for a little while and then my friend Hayley showed up with 8 month old baby Emily. Declan likes her. He likes her baby toys. He does not like when I'm paying attention to her and not playing with him. Declan tried to convince me to go upstairs with him to play alone with him in his room. Silly monkey.

Finally after Declan's nap it was just Declan, me and Daddy. Declan however didn't want Daddy for anything. He just kept clinging to me. And he was so very sensitive. Poor guy. It was rough fighting for my attention.

He did however love the breakfast Potatoe pancakes I made him.

Fun

Daddy and Declan were driving in the car on their way home from Daycare. Completely unprompted Declan says "Mommy's fun!"

Daddy asked:
"What's that Declan?"

"Mommy's fun."

Daddy made sure to tell me soon as I got home from work today. I've been just hanging out over on cloud 9 all evening.

His Face Changed

You could just tell. When I got home today Declan was full of energy. He wouldn't stop talking about his day and his Lego Duplo, what he had for dinner and his Daddy. I asked if he'd had a good day to which he answered a simple "Yeeeee-UP".
I asked which friends he hug out with and he told me "Ella and Jorja and, wait no Jorja and baby Nicholas and baby Makenzie."
"And was Lexy there?"
"Yup and Lexy."
Just then Daddy called Declan upstairs for his bath. I followed along but didn't go right into the bathroom. Once I walked in I saw Daddy getting Declan undressed. Declan had the biggest smile on his face. He was just so happy. His smile was so big his face changed. It looked completely different, so round, he was just beaming.
Makes me very happy.

For Auntie T

While Declan was in his bath we got company! Auntie T showed up for a visit. Declan was thrilled. While getting dressed in his pjs he recited the entire 'Potty Book for Boys" by heart. Then when it was bedtime he asked for Auntie T to read the Potty Book since Daddy wasn't home to do it. After story time was over and Declan was tucked in he asked Auntie T for a goodnight kiss.

After being in bed about a half hour I could hear Declan get up out of bed. I went upstairs and put him back to bed. Declan asked if he could sleep in my bed. I told him later but that I wasn't going to bed just yet. Then he asked for Auntie T to sleep with us too. I said no, she wasn't sleeping with us. He said because Daddybwasnt here she could sleep with Mommy and Declan.
Sweet invite but no.

And it's after midnight now and some little guy is curled up next to me.

He Gets Me

"You know you're my favourite right?"

"Yup. I know."

And he does. At three he has me all figured out.

We're hanging out back, bubbles and playing catch. I sat down on the steps for a little break while Declan keeps playing with his Spider-Man bubble maker. He stares at me, then says "I love when we have fun in the back yard."
My heart melts. Good job Mommy!

We sat in the grass beside the garden and found a snail shell (sans the snail), some sticks and a rock. Just having a fantastic 3 year old time. Declan then started reciting his Perfect Piggies book. Not only is he proud of himself but he encourages me to jump in "now you go!"
And like that it's the best 41 year old time too.

Little Visits

Declan got a nice little visit from Gramma and Poppa this morning. Declan showed Poppa his Lego Iron Man and how his mask flips up. He showed them both how he could jump on his bouncy ball. Declan proudly did some of his new exercise moves while counting to twelve. He's such a pro.

In the evening I stole away from work so I could briefly pop in for a little visit during bath time. I started to tell Daddy how when I washed and cut up berries Declan helped me but he cut me off and said "oh I know. He told me."
"What?!? What did he say?"
"That he helped you with the berries."
So zero secrets now.
In fact he ratted himself out tonight. He accidentally got water out of the tub. I told him I'd clean it up so Daddy didn't find out.
Soon as Daddy walks in: "I got water out of the tub Daddy!" He didn't pause even a second.

Car Seat

We are getting there. The Muffin Man can climb out of his car seat, but he won't even try climbing in. He's too comfortable being my little prince and being lifted and placed into his seat.

Showed Declan a catch game this evening. Two Velcro pads and a small Velcro ball, Declan is so excited to play. We practiced gentle catches and throws this evening and tomorrow we can go outside and try. The best part for me? Watching him struggle to get the ball free of the Velcro!

Backyard Bubbles...again

Another beautiful day. Got Declan outside soon as I could and of course he wants to play with bubbles. We have a Spider-Man bubble blower for 3 years olds so we had a happy little boy. He was successfully making his own bubbles without my help.

I think we need to make it a rule that if the weather is nice we are outside every minute we can. Declan is exhausted and sleeping so great right now and I know the fresh air is good for me!

Fast Talker

Walked in the door after work to speed talker. Declan ran to see me then proceeded to run rapidly through his day. I barely caught a word, I know he said he was at Kellys, something about my clock and that he'd eaten his dinner. Then after I asked if he played with any friends today he said "Baby Nicholas and Ella" along with something about sleeping so then he could play more.

So, guess he had a busy day.

Sunshine

After a nice night away with my girlfriends I came home to a happy, smiley little boy waiting for me at the door. Welcomed with a big hug and kiss, Declan was excited to see me. He did of course have a nice night himself home alone with Daddy.

The weather has finally turned to blue skies and double digits so we set up the back yard for some time outside. Declan asked right away to play with bubbles so I dug them out. He chaced the big bubbles with his digger, he tried again and again (sometimes successfully) to blow them on his own. He fawned over the "baby bubbles" wanting to hug them and wore bubble juice all over himself. He sang his ABC's and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star along with some interesting dance moves and finally we ate dinner outside before coming in for Declan's bath time.

Very excited for a nice long spring/summer.

What Jacket?

As Declan lay in between us in bed this morning he got to hear a pretty good thunderstorm. Flashes of lightning and some solid thunder amongst the tearing rain. Sounded awesome to me. He's just little. Daddy was comforting him, asking him if he was ok and did he know what it was? Later in the morning Declan told me all about the thunder.

When we were getting ready to head to Kellys I told Declan he could wear his rain jacket. When he saw it he said "No it's a race jacket. Oh a rain jacket? Oh it's a race rain jacket!!!!

The Holidays

Two days ago Declan was walking around swinging the little Easter basket he got from Autie T. He shows it to me and says "From Auntie T. It's for the Holidays, brings the family together."

[In The Thankful Book there is a page that reads "I'm thankful for The holidays because they bring the family together." He is such a little sponge.]

Dr

"Mommy! Mommy! Come here! Come look!"

"What is it Declan?"

"It's Monkey. He's sick."

"We'll let me look at him. He doesn't feel feverish. His ears look good. Eyes look good, throat looks good. I think he's going to be ok buddy."

I thought that was it.

An hour later, soon as Daddy walks in the door.

"I'm sad."

Daddy, still at the door with shoes on "you're sad?"

"Ya I'm sad."

"Why are you sad Declan?"

"Monkeys sick." And there we go again.

During my dinner break at work I just had to check in. Turns out Declan got out his Doc McStuffins Dr kit and checked Monkey over. Monkey is feeling better.

The Alphabet Song

A new routine for Declan during bath night involves his body cream on his belly and the Alphabet song. Declan likes to take cream from his belly and put it on his legs while he sings his ABC's and tonight he sang the entire song on his own. I was pretty proud. High five'd him.

Ladies Man, For Real

I got to go with Daddy Monday afternoon to pick Declan up from Daycare. He gets his shoes and jacket on while his little friend Alexis watches. She then asks "Hug and Kiss?"
Declan turns, walks up the two steps and gives her a hug. She shyl turns away a little and Declan asks "Kiss too?"
Then they give a quick kiss goodbye, Declan giggles and jumps down the stairs and we're on our way.

We get in the car and I ask "Is Alexis your daycare girlfriend?"
"Yes. Her name is Lexy."

He's 3.

The Bunny Came By

Our little man slept in our bed last night.
That means we didn't really sleep. He slept well. Very well. Little stinker.

When he woke up we gave him his Easter basket and said we could check to see if the Bunny visited.

And he did!!!

Our lucky little monkey filled his basket full of eggs. He even got some Lego, Ironman Lego!

We visited with Auntie T, Josh, Mad, Gramma, Poppa and Uncle Scott for Brunch at the Carlisle Golf Club. He was pretty good, ate some pancakes, some chocolate, stacked creamers and chased around a little boy. At one point he stood across the room and yelled "I'm going to poop!"
Fantastic.

He Can't Sing

The Muffin Man has recently taken to singing. Not a lot and usually the same songs.
What we've discovered is that he really can't carry a tune. Maybe that comes with age. Right now it's kind of awesome.

Another thing that's awesome is that he fell asleep on the floor in his room once again so I've just brought him to our bed so I can snuggle him all night.  My little songbird.

My Helper

Three is such a big age. Sure things are slow when you have 3 year old help but it's amazing that he can do so much. He helps make breakfast (cracking eggs), he helps put clean sheets on our bed (then jumps all over it) and he proudly hands me new yard waste bags (and goes in and on about the dirt-"yuck").

At three he can understand so much. Tonight he saw the Mr. Potatoe Head with the Darth Vader Helmut. He said "Look Mommy! Humpty Dumpty Darth Bader!" I said "Actually it's Darth Tater. It's a Mr. Potatoe Head Toy. People sometimes call Potatoes Taters and then It has a Darth Vader Helmut. Vader sounds like Tater so he's called Darth Tater."
"Ha ha Mommy. Darth Tater. Tater potater."
He kindof gets it. He's a real person.

New Little Workout Buddy

Decided it was a good idea to introduce Declan to some simple daily workout moves. Together we did jumps and jumping jacks, planks and push-ups, leg lifts, butt lifts and squats. So much more interesting doing a little excercise with the cutest partner ever.

Now that I know he likes it we will have to work it into our every day.

Delivery

I get out of the shower to Declan yelling "Mommy, there's someone at the door!"
Thankfully I don't have to worry about him answering it when I'm in the bathroom: very high deadbolt. Whew!

I check the front door and there was a box for The Good Family from Ottawa. Declan and I cracked it open to find some nice Easter gifts from Grandma and Grandpa May.

He can't read. He was admiring the picture at the bottom of the note.

He loves his present.
